So you want to be a 'LETTERBOXER'...

A few of the things we use when letterboxing.
How do I get started?

Before you run out on to the moor, and start searching...you should purchase a good map.
If you are planning to 'letterbox' on Dartmoor, it would be wise to get Outdoor Leisure Map - OL 28(covers most of Dartmoor).  This can be had at most news agents, book shops, and tourist/information places.

Wear comfortable footwear; and thick socks - as the terrain is uneven and rough.

It is advisable to wear long trousers instead of shorts; even if the day is a pleasant warm summers day - as the gorse is prickly; and a scrape on a rock is unpleasant.

To be of note: there are ticks that may make you ill by their bite; and though it isn't all that common - there are poisonous snakes - adders; who enjoy lounging in the sun on warm days.
